The Kaira role-transition methodology
Bring your curriculum. We will show you where it lands.
Bring a residency or role-transition curriculum. The pipeline produces an AACN-aligned coverage map, a Practice distribution, and an exemplar-scenario library. In-Center Dialysis to Home Dialysis is the first instance.
For L&D leaders and CNOs preparing the case for residency investment.
The pattern, not the customer
Role transitions share a structure.
A role-pair maps a from-role to a to-role. It names the AACN sub-competencies the new role needs, the Practice weights for that role, and a library of exemplar scenarios. The pattern holds whether the move is med-surg → dialysis, bedside → charge, or ICU → PACU. The methodology stays the same. Only the inputs change.

The pipeline
Six steps from curriculum to coverage map.
- 1
Chunk
Split the curriculum into atomic learning units. Preserve the source document structure so anchors stay traceable.
- 2
AACN map
For each chunk, identify the AACN sub-competencies it touches. The mapping is many-to-many; a single skill station may anchor against three sub-comps.
- 3
Five Practices map
For each AACN sub-comp, surface its mapped Practice from the canonical framework crosswalk. No new assignment is made here.
- 4
Write rows
Produce one row per (chunk, AACN sub-comp, Practice) triple, with confidence and the matched evidence span. Auditable end-to-end.
- 5
Aggregate
Roll up to a coverage report: count of sub-comps covered per AACN domain, weight distribution across the Five Practices, and an inventory of uncovered sub-comps.
- 6
Render
Output the artifacts the L&D leader actually defends in a budget review: the coverage map, the weight chart, and the exemplar-scenario library.
A worked example
In-Center Dialysis → Home Dialysis.
The first run took an anonymized synthetic curriculum for a home dialysis nurse residency and mapped it. The pipeline found the curriculum covered patient and family education thoroughly. It was weakest in population-health assessment. And it leaned on P3 (Hands) more than the role's real day-to-day work calls for. Three sub-competencies dropped out of the coverage entirely. Each finding has a chunk reference and a confidence score.
